The King is awarded Green Blue Peter Badge

His Majesty The King has been awarded a Green Blue Peter Badge to mark Earth Day 2026. The honour recognises his long-term work in environmental conservation and his efforts to promote global sustainability.

The presentation occurred at Dumfries House, the headquarters of The King’s Foundation in Ayrshire. Blue Peter presenter Joel Mawhinney delivered the badge during a filming session for a special edition of the BBC programme.

The Green Blue Peter Badge is a distinction reserved for individuals who demonstrate a clear commitment to protecting the natural world. This award highlights The King’s leadership on climate issues and the initiatives led by The King’s Foundation, which focuses on sustainable community development, environmental education, and traditional skills and ecological harmony.

During the presentation, His Majesty met with young Green Badge holders participating in the Foundation’s Growing Together, Cooking Together and Food for the Future programmes. These students shared their methods for reducing food waste and protecting local ecosystems.

As part of the event, several student inventions and designs were selected to be sealed in the Foundation’s time capsule, scheduled to be opened in 2126.

Executive Director for Education at The King’s Foundation Jacqueline Farrell said: “It has been wonderful to see our students receive their Blue Peter Green Badges on the Dumfries House estate – and how special for them to receive them alongside The King! The Food for the Future programme has been running for over five years, helping students to build their confidence so they can play an active role in reducing food waste and promoting sustainability within their communities. After taking part in our programme, 100% of students stated that they feel more aware of food waste and its effects on the planet and what they can do as a result, which so heartening for The King’s Foundation education team. We are grateful to Blue Peter for this very special opportunity.”

Head of Commissioning Sarah Muller said: “Blue Peter has always been about inspiring children to get involved and to believe that they can make a difference to the world. Awarding His Majesty a Green Blue Peter Badge on Earth Day is a powerful reflection of that mission. His Majesty’s lifelong commitment to protecting the natural world, and the work of his charity The King’s Foundation in empowering young people to live more sustainably, perfectly embodies the values Blue Peter has championed for generations.”

The special episode of Blue Peter will air on CBBC on Friday, 1 May at 5:00 PM. It will also be available for streaming on BBC iPlayer. The episode will feature an appearance by Steve Backshall (Deadly 60), a segment on deadly fungi at Kew Gardens and a review of Outside In: Nature Poems by Daniel Thompson for the Blue Peter Book Club.
