ScottishPower customers save £24m in under two years

As households across the UK continue to face higher energy costs, ScottishPower has revealed its customers have saved more than £24 million in the past two years by being more flexible with their energy use.

Almost 600,000 homes are now signed up to its innovative Power Saver offer, which rewards customers with access to cheaper electricity during selected times throughout the week, helping them reduce their costs.

The milestone comes as millions of households continue to look for new ways to manage their energy bills and get more value from the energy they use at home.

From charging electric vehicles and running appliances overnight to shifting household chores into cheaper periods, customers are increasingly embracing flexible energy use to unlock savings.

Research recently commissioned by ScottishPower found nearly half (47%) said weekend plans or being out of the home prevented them from making greater use of discounted periods which have traditionally been offered on Saturdays or Sundays by other suppliers.

To help more people benefit, ScottishPower evolved its Power Saver offer to let customers chose the hours that best work for them to benefit from cheaper electricity.

“Helping customers save more than £24 million in under two years is a fantastic milestone at a time when many households remain concerned about their energy bills,” Andrew Ward, Chief Executive of ScottishPower’s Customer Business, said. “What’s particularly interesting is that our research showed flexibility matters just as much as the savings themselves. Customers told us they wanted energy offers that fit around busy lives, rather than fixed discounted periods that don’t always work for everyone.

“That’s why we’ve focused on giving people more choice over when they can benefit from cheaper electricity, helping them save money in a way that works for their household.”

With wholesale energy costs remaining volatile and bills increasing under the latest price cap, ScottishPower is the only energy supplier which allows customers to choose eight hours of cheaper electricity at selected times throughout the whole week with flexibility that suits their lifestyle.

Whether it’s charging an electric vehicle, doing the washing, running the dishwasher or powering a busy family home, Power Saver lets customers can choose discounted periods that best fit their daily routines.

ScottishPower has also seen enquiries for its dedicated electric vehicle offers rocket by around 630% compared with this time last year as drivers look for ways to cut motoring costs amid soaring fuel prices.

With diesel prices hitting over £2 per litre, and petrol over £1.70 per litre, a typical 55-litre tank of petrol is costing drivers on average around £96 to fill, while charging an EV for the same distance on its EV Optimise costs around £10, saving approximately £86.

ScottishPower is also offering dedicated support to those struggling with their bills, including its Priority Services Register (PSR), specially trained affordability teams, accessibility services, payment support, the ScottishPower Hardship Fund and participation in government schemes such as the Warm Home Discount.
