Investment to accelerate AI-powered energy efficiency

British energy technology company measurable.energy has secured increased investment from RO Capital Partners and former US Federal Reserve Vice Chairman Roger W. Ferguson Jr., strengthening its balance sheet as it looks to accelerate growth in the UK and expand internationally.

The transaction sees RO Capital Partners jointly lead the restructuring and recapitalisation of the business alongside Mr Ferguson, with both parties becoming joint largest shareholders. The move provides measurable.energy with a simplified ownership structure and additional capital to support customer acquisition, international expansion and wider deployment of its AI-powered plug load management technology.

The company has developed a cybersecure ‘smart socket’ system that uses artificial intelligence to identify and eliminate wasted electricity in commercial buildings. Plug load – energy consumed by devices connected to power sockets – can account for up to 40% of electricity use in commercial properties, with a significant proportion wasted by equipment left running unnecessarily.

By automatically switching off appliances when they are not in use, measurable.energy claims its technology can reduce plug load energy consumption by up to 50%, lowering electricity costs and carbon emissions without requiring behavioural change from building occupants.

The company has already secured contracts with organisations including Balfour Beatty Vinci, Morgan Sindall and PKF Francis Clark. Customer results include a 52% reduction in energy consumption and a 49% drop in carbon emissions across 25 UK offices for Dalkia. Meanwhile, Tortilla Group reported a 32% reduction in energy use and a 34% cut in carbon emissions, while Kier Group achieved a 47% saving in energy costs and a 34% reduction in carbon emissions across site accommodation.

RO Capital Partners first invested in measurable.energy in 2022 after initially adopting the technology within its own operations. Since then, the investor has continued to support the business as it expands its presence across commercial real estate, construction and other sectors.

“This transaction provides the business with a stronger capital base, a simplified ownership structure and a clear platform for long-term growth,” said Edward Rowlandson, Group Managing Director of the RO Group. “We are also delighted to be investing alongside Roger Ferguson, whose experience spans the highest levels of global finance, investment and corporate leadership. His continued commitment is a powerful endorsement of the management team, the technology and the long-term commercial opportunity. We look forward to helping measurable.energy scale a solution that delivers rapid, measurable reductions in energy use, operating costs and carbon emissions.”

“I am supporting measurable.energy because it addresses a significant and growing global challenge with a practical, scalable and commercially proven technology,” said Mr Ferguson. “Businesses around the world are under increasing pressure to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions, and measurable.energy provides a solution that automatically cuts wasted plug load energy while delivering measurable financial and environmental returns.

“We often use the analogy that you would not ignore a dripping tap,” said Dan Williams, CEO and Co-Founder of measurable.energy. “Small amounts of wasted electricity may seem insignificant, but across a building or estate they quickly add up. measurable.energy exists to bring visibility and control to that blind spot. With RO Capital Partners and Roger Ferguson behind us, we have the financial strength and experience to bring our technology to more organisations in the UK and internationally, helping them reduce energy costs and carbon emissions.”
